What is Gut Health? What helps Gut Health?

Gut health! A topic that can seem overwhelming with the many differing opinions!

Let us break it down for you.


What is gut health?

Gut health refers to the balance and function of the gastrointestinal system (GI system). This

includes the interaction between the gut microbiome and the immune system.

A healthy gut supports proper digestion, immune balance, mental wellbeing and overall health.


What is Gut Micobiome?

Gut microbiome is the complex community of microorganisms living in the GI system. Made

up of bacteria, virus, fungi and other microbes, it is an eco-system and needs balance. Things

such as food choices, stress, sleep and medications can all help or hinder this finely tuned

balance!

Immune Health & Gut Health

There is no secret our immune system has and continues to be challenged.

And with more and more awareness coming out about gut health being linked to so many parts of us,

it’s no surprise immune health is one of them!

As Chinese Medicine practitioners, we’ve always believed food to be medicine.

Continued care must be taken with our delicate system and

a balanced gut is one way to help the immune system stay strong and adaptable!

Take care in HOW you eat

Having a balanced gut takes more than the types of food we eat.

Stress also plays a major role!

  • Take time to consider how you are eating

  • Breath while you eat.

  • Chew each mouthful more than a few times.

  • Place your feet flat on the ground, side by side, while you sit and eat.

There is an abundance of information in the media about gut health and it can be confusing!

An important point to remember is to keep things simple!

  • Eat foods in season

  • Eat many coloured foods

  • Move your body every day! Dance while you are cooking (just not too close to the stove!) 

  • Sleep is a big part too, but more on that in another newsletter!

    For now, find ways to calm down before going to bed. (Acupuncture can often help)
