Acupuncture for Endometriosis - Embrace Acupuncture

Acupuncture for Endometriosis Pain

In clinic, we see women who have Endometriosis pain during their periods, as well as before, around ovulation and at other times. It can flare up with sex, passing bowel motions or urinating and can be felt in the pelvic region, back or upper abdomen most commonly.

Acupuncture works to improve pelvic blood flow & reduce pain levels.

Acupuncture has been shown in Systematic Reviews & Meta Analysis to reduce Endometriosis pain & circulating blood levels of the CA125 inflammatory markers.

Big fat yay!

But what else can you do?

What helps Endometriosis Pain?

The short answer?

  1. Fix your iron levels

  2. Lower your inflammation

  3. Improve pelvic blood flow

  4. Reduce oestrogen dominance

Let’s break that down into easy things you can action today

Embrace Acupuncture
  1. Low iron affects Endometriosis

We see this all the time in clinic! If your iron levels are low, your body can’t run your hormonal system well & problems arise.
You can read loads more on that here.

  1. Get your iron tested here or with your GP

  2. Ensure your ferritin (iron storage levels) are well above 30ug/L. Ideal is 75 - 150ug/L - especially if you’re planning a pregnancy soon.

  3. Request an iron infusion here or with your GP if your levels are well below, you’re planning to fall pregnant soon or aren’t going up with supplementation.

You could potentially have this fixed in 2 weeks!!

2. High inflammation affects Endometriosis

Alcohol, sugar, gluten and food additives/preservatives are highly inflammatory and should be avoided with Endo, but there’s often more to the story.

We HIGHLY recommend giving Autoimmune Paleo diet a go.
It’s a short-term elimination diet that creates a clean slate for your body so you can see which foods flare up your immune system and make your Endo pain worse.

Avoiding the major chemical baddies in skincare, makeup and hair care is key too. This app is fabulous in helping you navigate this

3. Increase pelvic blood flow

Increased pelvic blood flow means a decrease in pain and makes it easier for your immune system to mop up damaged cells and clear inflammation.

Acupuncture is beautiful for this. And so is:

  1. Heat packs - we love the ones that stick on your undies for portable warmth!

  2. Castor oil packs - Warmth + helps break down adhesions & scar tissue. (just don’t do it during your period or if you might be pregnant)

  3. Avoid cold food, feet & a cold uterus
This is a big one in Chinese Medicine! Pain is better with warmth, so it makes sense that it’s worse with cold! More on this soon

4. Decrease Oestrogen Dominance for Endometriosis

Some women make too much oestrogen and this is contributing to their Endo symptoms.
Avoiding ‘fake’ oestrogens like soy products helps!

Some women make the right amount of oestrogen but their liver struggles to break it down so they end up with an excess.
Avoiding alcohol, excess chemicals and fixing your iron levels all help.

Whether your the kind of person who wants to go on an Endo ‘blitz’ and do it all at once

Or

if you like to go low & slow and try a few things at a time, we hope you get great benefit out of this info.
