Anxiety, Acupuncture & Somatic Therapy

Anxiety can be a difficult emotion to manage, but it’s important to remember that you are not alone.  We have all experienced anxiety to various degrees.  It is normal to feel anxious before an important event like a presentation or a first date. However, anxiety that occurs for no apparent reason can be debilitating and affect daily life.

If you frequently experience anxiety and don’t know how to manage these strong feelings, Acupuncture + Somatic therapy can be a great holistic approach to help bring greater harmony and balance into your life.

Work with us.

What is Somatic Therapy?

Somatic Therapy is a holistic form of therapy that focuses on the mind-body connection.
Its premise is that our thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations are all interconnected and influence each other.

The goal is to increase self-awareness and provide individuals with the tools to cope with stress more effectively, leading to reduced anxiety and greater ease and grace.

During the session, we use various techniques such as:

  • breathwork

  • gentle movement

  • body awareness exercises

which help release tension stored in the body and tune into the body’s innate wisdom.

How anxiety impacts the body

Anxiety is more than feeling stressed or worried for a particular reason.

Normally, these feelings subside once the stressful situation has passed.  However, when anxious feelings don’t go away or don’t have a clear trigger, these strong feelings become difficult to manage, and daily life is hard to cope with.

Anxiety can manifest in a variety of symptoms, such as:

  • shortness of breath

  • changes in heart rate

  • sweating

  • stomach pain

  • chest pain

  • fatigue

  • dizziness

  • insomnia

  • headaches

  • muscle tension

  • trembling or shaking

  • dry mouth

  • panic attacks.

Somatic therapy with Acupuncture for the treatment of anxiety

Currently, anxiety is one of the most common mental health conditions affecting 1 in 4 Australians.

Typically, it is treated with medication and talk therapy.  However, recent research shows that Acupuncture can be more effective than anxiety medication and comparable to talk therapy.

Acupuncture directly reduces anxiety by helping the body cope with stress and helps bring feelings of calmness.  It does this by increasing the release of endorphins, which are the body’s natural feel-good chemicals.

Combining Acupuncture with Somatic therapy can be an even more effective way to regulate the nervous system and bring the calm and centredness that you deserve.
