The Two Week Wait…

Whether you are trying to conceive naturally or undergoing assisted reproductive therapy such as IUI or IVF, the 2 week wait for a positive pregnancy test can be a very stressful and anxious time.

This can be made worse if you are taking fertility medications which may affect sleep patterns and make one anxious due to their side effects.

As an Acupuncturist specialising in fertility, I walk alongside many women going through this windy journey and I am constantly giving advice and tips on how to make this time as easy and stress-free as possible

If you need some support (even if you’re not sure whats happening yet), make a time with us.

To help you through the two week wait, I have listed below some of the top things I suggest to patients to make these two weeks easier.

Keeping Calm

  • Reduce coffee intake to maximum 1 per day.  Coffee tends to give you a rush of energy.  When wired and stressed, less is more.

  • Journaling your thoughts - writing calms the mind.  This is great to do first thing in the morning or before bed.

  • Focusing on Gratitude – make a gratitude list or a follow Heart Breathing exercise  (from the HeartMath Institute). This can help highlight the things that are working for you and bring you into a state of emotional balance.

  • Be in nature - walking in nature or sitting in the natural elements can really provide a sense of oneness with existence and bring a sense of calm & balance. Think sunsets, sunrise, beaches, rivers, forest walks, sitting under a tree, feet on some grass

  • Qi Gong, Yin Yoga  and Yoga Nidra (a guided meditation) are all wonderful gentle ways to help your body find ease and flow.

  • Somatic therapy  is a gentle way to safely slow down and bring calm during stressful times by deeply regulating the nervous system.  It allows the mind & body to transition from a heightened stress response - from fight or flight to a place of ease and grace.

  • Acupuncture has been shown to increase the release of endorphins. These are our body’s natural feel-good hormones that help relieve pain, reduce stress & anxiety, and improve your sense of well-being.

  • Stay connected to people you can trust and confide in.  There is no need to do it all on our own.
